Curing Dog Itchy Skin Naturally

The most common skin problem faced by the dogs is that of dry skin or itchy skin. Dog itchy skin can be due to natural factors or it could be the result of using a harsh shampoo with chemical contents.

Following steps will help in curing the dog dry skin:

Everyday your dog is exposed to dirt, germs and debris from the environment. The dirt, if not cleaned regularly, will settle on the skin and can cause your dog itchy skin. Therefore, your dog should be combed everyday. Combing the skin will remove the dirt from the skin and prevent it to settle on the skin. Do not exert pressure when dealing with tangles and comb only with a good quality brush having softer bristles.

Most of the dog dry skin is the result of hair loss.  The main cause for hair loss could be the dandruff. Sometimes, when you use a regular shampoo, the dyes and chemicals present in the shampoo can cause irritation to the dog skin. As compared to human skin, the skin of the dog is very sensitive. Therefore, when you go shopping for a dog shampoo, ensure that you are buying a natural shampoo with conditioner, with zinc pca. Check the ingredients of the shampoo, and ensure that the shampoo does not contain chemicals. The chemicals in the shampoo can make the dog skin dry can cause irritation. Scratching generally occurs on dry skin and it further leads to hair loss. Therefore, always choose a natural shampoo with conditioner that contains zinc pca.

A natural shampoo with conditioner does not contain harsh chemicals. The conditioner present in the shampoo will prevent the skin from drying. Zinc pca is an active ingredient that cures dandruff. Therefore, if your dog were suffering from dry itchy skin, then the first step would be to change your shampoo. Bathe your dog at least once in a week. Apply natural shampoo generously on the body. Allow it to lather and wait for two minutes before rinsing off the shampoo. Then, start washing the dog from the head and then proceed backwards. The shampoo would have settled on the coat, therefore rinse the body and the coat thoroughly to remove any traces of shampoo. Apply shampoo once again and follow the same procedure.

After bathing the dog, dry the dog properly. Drying is as important as shampooing. It is better if you dry the dog with a towel. Frequent use of blowers can turn the coat dry and result in hair loss. In case you are using an automatic hair dryer for your dog, then you need to check the temperature of the blower.

Your dog will be cured of dry itchy skin with help of natural shampoo. However, if you find that the itching persists in spite of using a good quality natural shampoo, then, you need to get you dog checked by a vet. The scratching may also be due to fungal infections such as yeast infection or ring worm infection.
