Hello, my to Basset Hounds are biting their skin very often and we just recently changed the type of dog food we provide. Can this dogs itchy skin a result of a change in diet?
Also, is there a chance it can be a skin disorder? will pet enzymes help?
Thanks so much in advance!

Hello Shirley, there sure is a strong correlation between a dogs diet and the health of their skin and coat. It is very common for a dog to experience skin irritation, rashes and itchy dry spots when dog food is changed.
The health and “well being” of a dogs skin is so much dependent on their diet and nutrients; and often lower grade pet foods lack some of the nutrients an animal needs. Also, very often they have the needed nutrients but the way the food is processed makes it difficult for the dogs digestive system to absorb the nutrients.
To stop your dogs scratching and itching I suggest going back to the original food and also start giving your Basset Hounds pet enzymes. These will promote much better digestion and absorption of nutrients they eat. Not only will you see their skin conditions clear up but you will also notice a marked difference in their overall health and mood.
Have a great day! Susi
