Scratchy Dogs

By | Dec 22, 2009

Hello, my dog often gets dry itchy skin when winter comes around.  It causes him to flake and scratch a lot.   What can be done to help out?  I have tried bathing him less and keeping him inside more but does not seem to work.  thanks, Annabel.

Hello Annabel, great question that comes up a lot once it gets cold outside. The best solutions is to use a shampoo that moisturizes. We have an oatmeal based dog shampoo that works great for this. Also use a skin spray in between baths that will help keep the dogs skin conditioned.

As far as not letting your dog outside don’t worry too much about that. It is the dry air, not the temperature that causes the skin to dry out.

    Thanks for question!
