Just as we have different blood types, so do our furry friends. Knowing about your pet’s blood type can be helpful in emergency situations. Here are some things about animal blood types that every pet owner should know.

Cat Blood Types

Unlike humans that have four blood types, cats only have three. Types A and B are common ones while AB is a rare type commonly seen in Absynnian cats. Like us, they exhibit negative reaction to blood transfusions of a different type of blood. Cats with type B blood generally show severe reactions to type A blood because of their present antibodies. Cats with type A blood, on the other hand, are more tolerant of type B transfusions. AB blood can be transfused to cats of all types without any adverse side effects. However, type AB blood occurs in only 1% of cats. In emergency situations, it is important that your pet is properly typed before any transfusion can be done. Transfusions of the wrong blood type would normally result in the death of the cat.

Dog blood types

There are 8 common blood types for dogs. Unlike humans and cats, they do not have naturally occurring antibodies in their blood. This means that they do not exhibit any negative reaction with a transfusion of another blood type. Earlier, it was believed that dogs did not have different blood types because of this characteristic.

This is very helpful, especially in emergency situations where blood has to be given to the dog. However, owners should take note that once a transfusion has been made, the dog will develop antibodies against the donor blood type so in the event they may need another transfusion, the proper type must be administered to avoid the body rejecting it.

Pet blood donation

In the event of an emergency, pet blood banks become of great help. Just as we humans can donate our blood to those who need it; pets can also help other sick pets. The blood type of pets can now be determined using sets that comprise of antibody strips. There is no compensation for blood donations made by pets but you may get discounts for veterinary services if you donate at the same place. Different qualifications set by the state have to be met before pets are allowed to donate blood. Pets should be at a healthy weight, free from medication, have no heart illness, and have no blood infectious diseases. There are only a few blood banks for pets in the country so if your pet is not afraid of the vet and matches all of the mentioned criteria, donating blood may be a good idea.

The Facts Behind Neutering

Most animal welfare organizations and owners advocate spaying and neutering pooches. These procedures are safe when performed by a veterinarian; removing your dog’s/cat’s reproductive organs is thought to be an effective animal birth control method.

A handful of industry pundits may say that doing so at a very early is a recipe for disaster, since the pooch ends up somewhat anxious and distressed; thus, it is important to zero in on potential benefits. Neutered male dogs may be less likely to experience prostate problems and testicular tumors in their senior years, whereas, spayed female pets have a reduced chance of becoming afflicted with ovarian cancer and other serious illnesses.

Indeed, the benefits of spaying or neutering your animal outweighs the disadvantages noted. Among the advantages, comes curbing the number of unwanted or neglected populations roaming the streets and lesser incidences of canine disease.

The question that also crops up, is how much will spaying and neutering cost? A veterinarian and referral service can direct caretakers to suitable clinics that perform these services at discounted prices. There are actually low-cost clinics in a many participating states.

Spayed/Neutered pets tend to be healthier and happier than those that aren’t. We must cast aside misconceptions (such as having a prolonged puppy-like behavior) on spaying/neutering. With less sexual tension and a lower risk of developing certain diseases, us owners are able to save costs on medical treatments in the long run, while adding to their pup’s longevity. Canines also stand to have less behavioral and temperamental problems when “fixed.”

Exercising these practices with your pets eliminates unwanted pregnancies and facilitates easier health care. Males that are neutered manifest improved behavior, whereas spayed females will not go into heat. It is important to be well-informed on this topic, as it may increase the days of your beloved’s life.

One reason we love dogs so much is because they are so genuine and know hoe to live in the moment. Look at this big guy getting some ZZZZ’s on a lazy Monday. Sometimes I wish I could enjoy a nap this much; especially on a Monday!!

do not disturb.

Trivia:

How many hours a day does the average dog in the US sleep?

Well if my dog’s were are any indication I would have to say 12……

According to the American veterinary Association (https://www.avma.org), it depends on the type of breed, size, activity level, and age. For example the large breeds like Mastiffs and Newfoundlands often sleep as much a 18 hours every day; although 12 – 14 is typical. They enjoy sleeping in the same place and often in areas where people are.
Medium size, and smaller dogs typically sleep 8 to 12 hours per day, again their lifestyle effects this quite a bit.

Since dogs love being with people so much, they will typically stay awake when their is activity in the house. While they may lay down, they will often have “one eye open” to see if their master leaves the room. If he does, you can bet the dog will not be far behind! When dog’s are laying down like this they are not so much sleeping as they are relaxing. I love it when our dogs do this. It is calming to know your dog(s) is relaxing near you, ready to spring to action when you move.

So how many hours a day does your dog sleep or relax, leave us a note on our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/evolutionsupply, we’d love to know!

He Occasionally Gets Rashes, Bumps or Hot Spots. What Can I Do?

Is your pet suffering from various skin disorders that at times, the amount of bumps, rashes and hot spots are getting quite out of control? It is true that over the years, thousands and thousands of animals have been suffering from different types of skin diseases brought about by allergies. In fact, it has already been proven that most canine-ailments nowadays are mostly skin-related. So, if your beloved canine companion is suffering from itchy skin resulting in unwanted spots and speckles, rest assured that you are not alone.

When it comes to allergies, take note that there are four categories you need to consider:

Allergies caused by fleas or other insects that bite

Allergies caused by dust mites, molds, grasses, or any small particles that can be inhaled

Allergies caused by consumed food and drink

Allergies that are contracted from contagious sources

The aforementioned have direct links to the itchy sensation your bud feels. What can you do to address these problems? The good news is, there are plenty of natural cures and treatments to minimize the presence of spots and rashes on your beloved pooch. Here are some of them:

Coconut Oil is considered to be effective against dry and itchy skin. With a handful of coconut oil, massage their fur at least once per week; after doing so, apply a good herbal shampoo before completely rinsing out with water.

Using Aloe Vera cream is also a good idea, as it is known to heal almost any type of external disease.

Another substance said to heal almost any type of skin-related disease is Milk of Magnesia. Using it is simple; just pour a small amount on a ball of cotton and rub it all over their skin. In the case of your pet, simply add a couple of drops to their water.

Apple Cider Vinegar is also an alternative solution. Mix a small amount in bath water two to three times a week until you are sure the spots or rashes are completely gone.

This list wouldn’t be complete without Baking Soda, the all-around cure. Again, mix it with the water and the itching will be gone with haste.

As an owner, it is your responsibility to distinguish first and foremost the type of allergy your pup has; then, you may proceed to using the treatments above to eliminate the itching once and for all.

Shedding is a dog’s natural way of getting rid of old or damaged hair. It occurs in virtually all dogs, unless of course the dog in question is also virtually hairless, such as the American Hairless Terrier. Because hair has a normal cycle of growth and falling out, shedding occurs all year round. A dog’s breed greatly determines how much and how frequent it will shed, although age, overall health, and the environment are also influencing factors.

Breed and Shedding

Although it may seem ironic, dogs whose hairs grow long shed less. While a pet Labrador, a shorthaired dog, might appear to shed less than a Poodle (a longhaired one), the opposite is actually the case. Long haired dogs have longer hair shafts which allow their hair to grow longer before naturally falling off. In other words, a long haired dog’s hair cycle occurs at a slower pace, making it shed less often.

New Coats for the Season

Aside from signaling the growth of new hair, shedding also indicates the arrival of a new season. As protection against the low temperatures of winter, dogs grow thicker fur, which they gradually shed off as summer approaches. This is a process called blowing coat, and some breeds, like the Newfoundland and Siberian Husky, shed so profusely that their owners end up finding hair all over their homes, persons, and even in their food.

Shedding and Bald Spots

Even though shedding is to be expected among dogs, pet owners must also be careful to note when shedding becomes excessive. When a dog starts having bald spots in its coat, it is best to consult with a veterinarian. Bald spots may be a sign of infection, allergy, or a nutritional deficiency. A sick or a poorly fed dog will tend to have an unhealthy coat because the nutritional resources needed to make the fur sleek and shiny are used for more important processes, such as infection control.

Coping with Dander

Because shedding is normal among dogs, aiming to completely eradicate fur sheds is impossible.
However, a pet owner can keep up with it, and enjoy a clean and relatively dander-free household.

Grooming is the most important measure against shedding. Brushing will keep a dog’s coat soft and clean; it also distributes the natural oils that keep hair free from mats. And because dog hair will eventually fall off on its own, it is best to remove these excess hairs with a comb before they can lodge into hard to clean areas like carpets, sofas, and clothes.

Proper nutrition will not only make the dog feel good, but also look good. A diet high in protein and essential nutrients will give the dog energy, mental alertness, and a sleeker coat. Occasional bathing, especially during the summer, will also be beneficial. Aside from helping the dog cope with the warmer weather, bathing will also remove dirt, dust and possible parasites that can lodge in its coat.

Digestive Enzymes For Dog Skin Problems

Digestive enzymes for dog skin problems are used for the treatment of many skin problems to include itchy skin, excessive scratching, mange, and even dermatitis. Canine skin infections ere typically caused by weak and damaged skin cells and outer skin membranes which does not allow the already dwindling and weak skin to remain healthy and guide itself against the problems of the skin. Healthy dogs will experience unhealthy skin because the skin cells will not have the capacity to procedure and absorb the required nutrients necessary for a healthy coat and skin. This is where enzymes for dogs come in to help repair the damaged skin by increasing the effectiveness and infection fighting process of the skin’s immune system. Hence, irrespective of the best diet, the dog may not be able to process the vitamins, nutrients and minerals effectively.

How Do Enzymes Help with Dog Skin Problems?

Remember the fact that dogs have digestive systems that are meant for natural foods, raw meats as well as organic compounds. For this reason, they don’t process the precise digestive dog enzymes required for the processing and absorption of nutrients in today’s diets. Hence, the lack of definite nutrients and minerals that first appears on their coat and skin. These deficiencies due to lack of specific nutrients and minerals will bring about weakness of the sebum glands, skin cells, follicles and outer skin membrane. One important thing to remember with digestive enzymes for dogs is that they are living enzymes and as a result it is very important to insure that they are fresh and not over 6 months old. Older enzymes are much less effective and eventually will no healing value at all.

If all these signs persist for a long period of time, they can cause infections and skin problems that will eventually become very difficult to get rid of as they would have advanced to acnes, hot spots, itching, rashes, scratching, infections and yeast infections.

Digestive Enzymes Explained!
Digestive enzymes are dynamic proteins that commence and gear-up the process of digestion. They function as mechanism for breaking down food to nutrients which are taken up by the body. Enzymes can be derived from meat, vegetable, fruit and in the digestive area of animal and human beings.
A balanced and healthy diet that contains unprocessed and raw foods gives the essential enzymes that will encourage healthy digestion. Nevertheless, illness dietary imbalances as well as aging can cause enzyme exhaustion that causes digestive problems in dogs.
Reasons for using Digestive Enzymes for Dog Skin Problems.

Many reasons are associated with using digestive enzymes for dog skin problems.

1. Digestion is being aided in dog by enzymes that are produced in the pancreas and other organs. Nevertheless, due to organ failure problem in some dogs which makes digestion of food to be expected, digestive enzymes are added in the diet of dogs to avoid organ failure and aid adequate food digestion. Also, for the fact that dogs eat fast as if they will not eat again, they may likely have gas and flatulence problems as a result of inadequate enzymes.

2. You can also use digestive enzymes for dog skin problems to get rid of dermatitis on the coat, avoid intestinal ailments that can meddle with the normal digestive process since dogs are in the habit of feeding on rotten items in the garbage bins. If these problems are not controlled with digestive enzymes, it will result to pH imbalance as well as burning of lining of the stomach that will make the dog drink water more than necessary and vomit profusely.

3. Giving digestive enzymes to dogs with their food is indispensable when all the natural enzymes in their food get destroyed as a result of cooking. The truth is that uncooked meat and food provide the essential enzymes that dogs need for digestion. Don’t forget that when these dogs were wild, they don’t feed on cooked meat and they are used to eating their meat raw with enzymes in it. Also, dogs need 30 percent fat (minimum) in their meat.

Sure, we all love those wonderful family pictures of dogs leaping and jumping after Balls and Frisbees while running in the park; but what if you just wan a pup to lay around with and cuddle all day? Being said, if you need a pet that will stay inside more or perhaps you live in an apartment; then you should definitely take not of know which breed of dog is more suited to be inside instead, rather than out. First off we have the Pekingese: these are often considered to be great lap dogs and people are seen carrying them about. Keep in mind that these dogs are friendly, loyal and playful. The aspect about them that makes them such a good indoor pet is they don’t have an abundance of energy and they are very heat sensitive. Therefore, instead of the great outdoors in hot weather, they prefer to be in an air conditioned interior. If you’re an owner in need of a dog to enjoy being indoors a great deal, then the Pekingese is the dog for you. A breed with a good temper that doesn’t require strenuous exercise, is the Basset Hound. They can be happy with short walks and then playful time indoors. They best spend their days lying down and relaxing but will play if coaxed. Another breed which will do great indoors is the English bulldog. This breed is loyal and great with children. They won’t get overly excited and will be happy to play indoors.

The Basset Hound

So depending on your preference and the amount of indoor space you have any one of these dogs would suit you very well. You can be sure that they will love playing with children and short walks will suit them very nicely. Because of their rather docile nature you also won’t have to worry about them causing a great disruption inside and knocking things over.

Hydrotherapy

Canines and humans often acquire similar health problems, some of these issues are those in which walking becomes problematic. Recovering from trauma, even as simple as a broken leg, can prevent a dog from exercising properly. Thankfully for the animal, hydrotherapy has become a popular method of treatment, enabling the victim to exercise even with debilitating injuries.

Hydrotherapy has a long history: it has been used for humans since ancient times, with formalization of its procedures attempted in the 18th century. It was found that horses benefited from cold-water treatment in the sea, and inventors interested in financial renumeration sought and found a way to replicate the treatment. A similar treatment was found for greyhounds, and from there treatment was extended to dogs. Today hydrotherapy has been modified, most notably that the water has been warmed up, and it used to help dogs recover from injuries that would otherwise keep the dog from exercising.

Although there are some exercises for dogs, they are in the same modified pool. The swimming pool is smaller than that used for humans, usually with a ramp so that the animal may walk into the pool or a hoist to help the animal in and out of the pool. The pool is also heated; as opposed to a horse, which benefits to cold water as a preventative measure against over-heating, heated water helps its muscles do better. Some pools also have a harness built into them to help a dog hold its position in the water. Throw in chlorination or other purification system, and the dog’s hydrotherapy pool is actually a reasonably complicated therapy tool.

How to Treat Canine Arthritis

Hydrotherapy can help dogs with a number of different conditions. Dogs with degenerative conditions cannot deal with a lot of pressure on their joints, sometimes to the point where even walking on their legs can cause damage; this allows the dog to get in some exercise without putting pressure on their bones. Pets with congenital disorders can also benefit; as some surgeries are only available for mature animals, this allows the dog to build up its strength for the surgery until it is mature enough for the operation. This is also a great for obese breeds that are otherwise unable to exercise to get the exercise that they need.

This is mostly used for dogs preparing and recovering from surgery. The most basic use is to allow a dog an exercise regimen to build up or maintain strength until the operation occurs, and then for the dog to recover its strength without pressure after the surgery. Dogs with spinal injuries or surgeries that affect motor functions can benefit especially from hydrotherapy, as the water allows them movement without pressure on the spine and allows them some semblance of free movement.

Most exercises for dogs involve walking or swimming, with some variants. The animal enters the pool either through use of a ramp or a hoist and is allowed some movement in the pool. He is then allowed to exercise for either a set period of time or until fatigue sets in. The pool usually contains jets so that the exercise can be made harder on the animal, allowing the therapist to better control the degree of exercise and to better challenge the animal. By controlling the flow of the water and duration of the dog’s time in the water, the therapist is better able to ensure that your pal gets the amount of exercise that it requires.

Walking is simply allowing the animal to walk in the pool, usually on a treadmill. Due to the water the animal walks almost weightlessly, as the water buoys the animal up. Should the therapist decide that the animal requires additional effort, he can choose to simulate an uphill climb by increasing the pressure of the jets. By combining periods of jets under various forces, the therapist can allow the animal a variety of different exercises with the same exercise equipment.

Swimming is the other major exercise in hydrotherapy; the hoist sees a lot of use in this exercise, forcing the animal to swim in a particular direction and to maintain its position in the pool. Again, by use of the pool’s jets the difficulty of the exercise can be increased, providing maximum quality of exercise for the animal. Again, thanks to the buoyancy of the water, the animal is able to exercise with pressure on its joints and the hoist is usually padded enough so as to provide just enough pressure to keep the animal positioned in the center of the pool; between the two the animal is able to exercise safely.

By using the hydrotherapy it is possible to give humans and pets alike, a better chance to recover from a wide variety of diseases and injuries. It is a relatively simply concept, and is easily enough implemented. All it requires is a pool made for dogs, and patience on the part of the therapist. As the therapy takes advantage of a dog’s natural love of water, it is one that most dogs have no problems with and actually enjoy, allowing the therapist to continue sessions for as long as needed. As every thought has been given to the pup’s comfort, this is a great way for dogs to get the exercise they need when they would otherwise be taken out of action.

Chemotherapy Drugs for Treating Canine Rheumatoid Arthritis

Chemotherapy drugs have been used to treat Rheumatoid arthritis in dogs for some time now. However, there are quite often a lot of questions that concerned owners have regarding just what exactly the drugs do, how safe the drugs are, and if there will be any negative side-effects for their furry little friends.

It is important to understand just what exactly Rheumatoid arthritis is and how it is affecting your dog before you can fully understand the treatment of it. This condition is an immune disease which in simple terms causes the immune system to begin attacking the connective tissue in the joints. Most often, Rheumatoid arthritis affects smaller breeds of dogs. The cause of Rheumatoid arthritis is unknown in most cases and it can affect dogs from around the age of seven months on.

There are different symptoms that will be exhibited when suffering from such an ailment; the most obvious being inflammation of the joints — which anti-inflammatory medications help wonderfully with — as well as fever, pain in the joints when moving around, difficulty getting up, weakening of the muscles along with muscles possibly wasting away due to lack of use, and loss of appetite.

Diagnosing Rheumatoid Arthritis in Animals

The diagnosis is very simple and pain-free: there are three main options for the vet to choose from: an X-ray to check for joint damage, a blood test to check for certain antibodies, or a joint test to check the joint fluid for a significant number of cells that would cause inflammation.

What your vet will be looking for in the case of the X-ray are joints that may be rough, small growths on the surface of the joints, and jagged surfaces. With this type of test, the results are always fast because the vet does not have to wait for any lab work to be processed and returned. This is usually the option most vets will take.

Once it has been confirmed, your vet will usually prescribe medication. There are surgery options available, however, these options are usually reserved for the most severe cases. The medication you will have prescribed for your pet will normally utilize immunosuppressive drugs as well as anti-inflammatory drugs. You may also have corticosteroids prescribed for your dog to help keep the inflammation down if your case happens to be a bad one.

Unfortunately, there is no way to cure these arthritic pains as this time; there are only treatments. There are several things you can do, however, to help alleviate the pain your dog is experiencing. Naturally, you’ll want to make sure that your dogs weight is under control. The less your dog weighs, the less pressure there will be on the joints which will lead to a happier and more pain-free dog. You might also want to consider putting some rugs down if you have hardwood flooring so that there isn’t such a hard impact on the joints when your dog is walking around. Also try to avoid walking your dog if he or she does not feel like walking. The pain may be really bad at that time and any extra stress on his or her joints is something that you want to try to avoid as much as possible.

So what about these medications your vet prescribes? How safe are they and are there any side-effects? Well, here’s the good news. For the majority of dogs, the medications available are perfectly safe. Obviously there can never be a guarantee because every dog is different, but going by incident rates, the chances of anything dangerous occurring are slim to none. There is, however, one thing you have to know about these chemotherapy drugs to make sure that you are helping your dog out as much as possible.

The most important thing you can do is make sure that your dog is always in a place where the temperature is going to be constant most of the time and do not let your dog outdoors in the winter if you live in a cold climate — unless your dog is dressed for the weather — because the way chemotherapy drugs work is by killing rapidly dividing cells. What this means is that there is going to be some bone marrow suppression. With bone marrow suppression, there is going to be a drop in your dog’s white blood cell count; which are the cells used to fight off infections and viruses. Depending on the amount of bone marrow suppression and your dog’s age, a bad cold could be very hard to get rid of, and in some very rare cases, it could prove to be fatal.

One side effect of chemotherapy drugs that you will probably notice is your dog becoming more tired. This can be either physically, where he or she does not want to do much anymore, or mentally. The reason for this is simply because anemia is common due to the chemotherapy drugs lowering the red blood cell count which causes a decrease in oxygen flow to muscles and the brain. This isn’t something dangerous, but if you notice your pal sleeping significantly more than usual, you may want to have your vet run another test and make sure that everything is in fact okay. Another side-effect — which is not usually a problem — is thrombocytopenia. This is where the blood has trouble clotting because of the reduced platelet count. This, however, should not be of concern to you unless your dog is getting cut a lot on various objects in the house or outside.

It is proven that Animals give their families lower blood pressure, stress relief, and unconditional love. The best way to repay this love, make sure they have all the tests and shots they need, including those designed to prevent Lyme Disease. Our furry-friends are easy prey for Lyme Disease, Spotted Fever and, Spirochetal Arthritis. They frolic in the great outdoors, leaving them completely susceptible to ticks and tick-borne diseases.

Symptoms of Lyme Disease

Spirochetal Arthritis is a bacterial arthritis caused by spirochetes, a class of Borrelia Burgdorferi Bacteria. If one lives in the upper Midwestern states, the Atlantic seaboard, or the Pacific coastal states, their dogs are at great risk of these Lyme-Disease-causing parasites. It is further noted that younger pups are more likely to contract Lyme Disease.

There are many different signs to watch for, however, reoccurring lameness is a primary one: this kind of bacteria can cause joints to ache and swell. This makes it painful for the dog to walk, causing a stiff limp. Other symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, and depression. There are certain breeds that are more prone to further complications like kidney and heart disease. Kidney disease is more prevalent in Labradors, but any breed can develop this debilitating affliction.

It is the hard-shelled deer tick that spreads the spreads the infliction throughout our beloved pooches. Interestingly, it usually takes 18 hours, or more, of the tick being latched on for the illness to be transmitted. Therefore, checking your buddy when they come back inside is a crucial and necessary precaution.

What Happens At The Vet?

Usually, comprehensive blood work will be done and the animal will be thoroughly checked for the exact location of where the tick was or still may be. If the tick has been removed, it is vital that doctors makes sure there are no remaining parts of insect within the fur.

At this point, if the victim is limping, or lame, in a particular area, the vet will check for fluid; if there are indicators that fluid is present, the Veterinarian will most likely take a sample to test as well.

Be aware that there are many different causes of arthritis in dogs. If these symptoms are present, it could be Lyme Disease but not always. An X-ray will further discern if there is damage, disorder, or disease.

If the afflicted is diagnosed with Lyme Disease, it will be a four-week outpatient treatment of antibiotics. The family will have to monitor all activity, ensuring the canine is dry and warm. Consult with the doctor when they seem to be improving, making sure the healing is a joint effort between family and veterinarian.

Prevention is half the battle and knowing what to avoid and look for can help immeasurably. Searching online can help one to find if their area is at high-risk. Daily grooming and checking for ticks is another great detriment. There are sprays and collars available as well; ask the family veterinarian to advise what is best for the family’s best friend.

Red Mites

The Red Mite, Dermanyssus Gallinae, is also known as the red poultry mite, chicken mite, or poultry mite. This is an ectoparasite of several bird species as well as poultry. The red mite is usually gray or white and quickly turns dark red as it feeds on blood. This is a blood feeder, meaning it lives on the blood of animal hosts. Some species of mammal are also targets of this arachnid.

When poultry has been infested by the mite, the bite may cause a number of reactions; some include decreased egg production, pain, irritation, a loss of feathers, hyperpigmentation, and scabs. In addition, the red mite is known to cause salmonella and anemia in hens. Red mites attack in the night, hiding in dark cracks and crevasses during the day. Studies have shown they need only seven days to complete their life cycle to adulthood, this includes: egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph and adult.

The infestation of these nuisances in the home is an annoyance that may be difficult to decimate. Humans are generally unaware of the instance they are attacked; instead, we only witness the results.

Fleas

Being insects, Fleas (Siphonaptera), like red mites, can infest mammals, birds and humans. Fleas are anatomically suited for piercing the skin with a beak-like mouth and are blood feeders like the mite. As a common adult parasite, it can live up to a year without a host; also, it can reproduce wit lifecycle hin thirty days.

There are several different species of flea; each begins as an egg, progressing to larva, pupa and imago (adult).

Unlike the red mite, a flea’s bite can be felt and is usually signified by a red itchy area where it occurred. An indication that there may be an infestation on a dog or cat is constant scratching. Although scratching does not rid the animal of fleas, it may relieve the irritation.

Flea Powder is a treatment to rid animals of fleas. Another remedy is a monthly tablet placed directly in the pet’s mouth or mixed with its food. With humans, treatment can be frustrating and difficult, beginning with a warm, soapy bath and the washing of bedding and clothing. Furthermore, many cases result to pesticide bombs.

Fleas are usually more active during the night but can be a nuisance at any time of the day. The treatment of fleas can be difficult when they are not feeding. When they are not feeding, they can lie dormant, surviving in places other than on the skin such as carpet, clothing, and furniture.

These instances, while not a common problem for dogs, can occur for a variety of reasons. This can not only be quite alarming to the owner, but also be potentially dangerous to the victim.

Seizures in dogs occur because of a neurological disturbance in the brain; these disturbances cause a storm of electrical activity, sweeping across the brain and causing any number of adverse effects. These effects can range from mild twitching, to constant salivation, and even death.

What Causes Seizures In Dogs?

In many cases, these cases are idiopathic, meaning they have no known cause. It is estimated that about 5%-6% of dogs will suffer from these type of seizures. However, this isn’t the case with all episodes; sometimes the disorder can be easily traced to a known medical condition.

1. Hypoglycemia

A sudden drop in blood sugar can spark such trauma; these variances usually occur when the owner gives their diabetic pooch too much insulin. It can also occur in puppies who are inflicted with an acute case of parasites. Worms in the intestinal tract consume all the glucose, causing a sudden drop in blood sugar.

2. Head Trauma

Injury to the cranium can cause serious damage to one’s brain, making them extremely vulnerable to contortions.

3. Toxins

There are many toxins that interfere with the normal functioning of an animal’s brain. Antifreeze and lead poisoning are usually the main culprits, but foods such as chocolate or onions can also have adverse effects on the cerebral cortex.

4. Canine Infections

There are several different infections which can cause a dog to experience a seizure. These infections include rabies, encephalitis and distemper.

Recognizing Canine Seizures

The preictal phase is what occurs right before the onset of an attack; said phase is characterized by several different symptoms that can be readily observed by the owner. Fido may become overly anxious or hyperactive, he may also try to seek help by becoming overly affectionate towards others. Many victims may not exhibit these symptoms; instead, they may opt to find a place to hide while they succumb to the fit.

After the preictal phase, the afflicted will then enter the ictal phase, this is when the actual occurrence begins. During this iteration, it is important that the owner not try to touch or shake the convulsed. Essentially, the pet may become dangerous during this time and inadvertently hurt its owner.

Types of Canine Seizures

There are two different types of canine seizures, Petit Mal and Grand Mal.

Petit Mal Seizures

1. Fine Tremors
2. Loss of Balance
3. Severe Whining
4. Constant Urination
5. Muscle Contractions

Grand Mal Seizures

1. Spontaneous Defecation
2. Foaming At The Mouth
3. Running Around in Circles
4. Severe Back Arching

Treating Canine Seizures

After the seizure has subsided, the post-ictal phase begins. Accordingly, the dog is most likely confused and exhausted. It is important that the master remain with them during this time, offering the animal help and comfort if needed. This is especially important since the martyr may be dealing with temporary problems such as deafness or blindness.

It is also important that the wounded is immediately taken to a vet for treatment. The vet will assess the sufferer, prescribing a treatment program that will keep the seizures under control. While there might not be a cure for epilepsy, it can be controlled with medication.

Osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative arthritis, a disease of the joints. More specifically, it is the untimely and relatively fast degredation of the joints. This disease involves painful manifestations and can often result in other, more serious injuries. Generally speaking, Osteoarthritis causes joint stiffness, pain, inflammation, effusion and the tearing of ligaments. There are many different causes for such an occurrence, some of which are: genetics, metabolic rate, lifestyle, environment, and mechanical causes.
Essentially, this degeneration causes wearing of the cartilage protecting the bones. When the bone becomes exposed it, it is suseptible to infection, damage, ware, and it is less able to insulate against impact. Bottom line, one’s mobility loses function. This disease is common in humans over the age of 50, primarily due to many years of ware and tare; during this process, the joints become weaker, calcium storage becomes depleted and the cartilage dissipates. A very similar phenomenon occurs in large mammals such as dogs, this is termed Canine Osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis Symptoms in Dogs

Canine Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of slow movement and lameness in dogs. For animals, a depleted range of motion is a huge issue because they need to be constantly active in order to stay both physically and mentally healthy. In dogs, the degredation of the cartilage often leads to the buildup of a new bone material called an Osteophyte (bone spur). The formation of osteophytes, can cause further pain, inflexibility, inflammation and make the victim susceptible to serious infection. In addition to these aspects, many canine joints (as well as human joints) are filled with nerve endings. Upon exposure due to Osteoarthritis, the nerve endings become irritated and cause severe pain. The pain often causes a lack of diet in dogs, which results in dangerous weight loss.

An interesting difference between Human and Canine Osteoarthritis is that the onset for canines is often much earlier than for humans. Therefore, the disease can be detected in its early stages and can be treated before it becomes hard to manage. One of the first signs of canine osteoarthritis is acute joint paint and continued lameness. Most owners begin to notice these signs when their pet experiences stiffness after physical activity or after getting up from a long rest. Masters may also notice their companion’s reluctancy to participate in physically stressing events. Some of these may even be daily activities such as getting in the car or keeping up with normal walks; in addition, the canine may begin to seek warm and soft surfaces, while spending extended periods of time licking and gnawing at an affected area.

Larger breeds are generally more predisposed to osteoarthritis. This leads experts to believe there is a genetic underlying cause to the disease, as well as an environmental cause. Physical stress also plays an important role in the onset and progression of this affliction.
It is crutial for the quality of life for any pet that their owner takes them to a veterinarian as soon as arthritic symptoms manifest. Dogs cannot let humans know when they are in pain, instead they display certain behaviors (some listed above). It is up to the owner to take notice and proper action. The vet will use several standard procedures for diagnoses; upon result, a proper prognosis will follow.
Treatment of canine osteoarthritis aims to eliminate the underpinning cause of the malignancy, reduce inflammation and pain, improve joint function, and ultimately slow the progression of the ailment.
Primarily, a veterinarian will assess the overall health of the dog. Those that are overweight will be put on a strict diet and those underweight, will be given a special diet. Canines at their proper weight, are more likely to respond to treatment with greater efficacy. In addition, the inflicted will often be prescribed painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication. Together, both owners and vets can ease, if not prevent arthritis in dogs.

Recommended Supplements for Dogs

A puppy is full of energy and constantly on the go; unfortunately, its brain does not keep up with its body, leading to the decimation of our shoes, toys, and furniture. Essentially, a puppy is difficult to train and housebreak; other problems with your new puppy’s growth and development may also arise. Thankfully, there are several supplements that will support the physical and mental development of your newborn companion.

Fish Oil is the primary supplement given to every new pup, as it supports proper mental and physical development. It has been shown to shorten training time, aid in house breaking, and calm aggressive or nervous personalities. The Omega-3 fatty acids it contains may also aid in the transportation of cholesterol and triglycerides, both vital to proper brain formation. Fish Oil may prevent the development of seizures in dogs that have a genetic predisposition.

Another benefit of fish oil for puppies is improved immune function; the early months of a dog’s life are stressful. Between weaning, moving to a new house, and then beginning the training process, your new friend faces a lot of transitions. Each of these taxeing on their immune system. Vaccinations, although necessary, are also hard on the developing immune system as well. Fish Oil supplements support the immune system by reducing inflammation that leads to chronic diseases.

The anti-inflammatory powers of fish oil also prevent auto-immune diseases in dogs. This includes a variety of kidney diseases, inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Dogs who are diagnosed with allergies and other autoimmune disfunctions, also benefit from supplementation with Omega-3.

Omega-3 fatty acids promote heart health; in dogs, like humans, essential fatty acids help protect the heart. Canines with heart failure have been shown to have lower levels of one of the essential fatty acids found in fish oil known as eicosapentaenoic acid, or EPA. Supplementing with a quality fish oil, such as salmon oil, has been shown to prevent and reverse the effects of heart disease. It also prevents the development of irregular heart rate, heart muscle loss and thromboembolism, which is a blockage of a blood vessel by a clot. This essential oil is also good for the coat and skin of puppies. For puppies with a dry, itchy coat; EPA has been shown to relieve symptoms. Dogs who suffer from allergic skin conditions tend to have less itching and flaking, a softer coat, and improved appearance.

Glucosamine and MSM for Dogs

Puppies also need support for the development of their bones and joints. The anti-inflammatory powers of fish oil helps with this but often, it is not enough. This is especially true in large or extra large breads with knuckling or bowing issues. Left untreated, these issues can cause severe problems. Proper supplements, along with a good diet, can correct and prevent further problems. Other supplements, including Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), glucosamine and chondroitin, help correct and prevent joint problems.

MSM is an essential part of the amino acid chain; without MSM, amino acids build up in the glands while the body lacks the correct enzymes needed to break them down. This opens your puppy up to unnecessary diseases and pain. It also isolates and inactivates free radicals and supports the rapid growth of an animal. This dietary addition supports the whole body on a cellular level. It helps your furry friend more effectively use vitamins and minerals from their food and supplements, as well as prevent cellular damage. Without MSM, tissue looses flexibility. Lung tissue, among other types of tissue, are more easily damaged when MSM is missing.

Other highly beneficial supplements include Vitamins A, C, D, and E.; these vitamins are all considered powerful anti-oxidants.

Vitamin A helps protect your puppy’s vision, aids in proper growth, eases skin irritation, and promotes a healthy coat.

Vitamin C is synthesized in the liver of healthy dogs. Unfortunately, stressors including immunizations, weaning, surgery and recovery from illness or injury, leave many victims without an ample supply. Vitamin C will help prevent disease, while also assisting in the healing of any illnesses or injuries. Vitamin C needs to be given in the form of a calcium ascorbate, to allow full digestion.

Vitamin D can be created by your dog if they get enough sunlight. In colder climates, or for dogs who spend much of their time indoors, supplementation is often necessary. This is especially true in young puppies and larger breed puppies. Not getting enough vitamin D can lead to rickets and dental problems. Dental problems can, in turn, lead to heart disease.

Another supplement that is beneficial for your puppy’s health is a probiotic. Probiotics alleviate handling processed foods, environmental pollutants, and other digestive stressors. Probiotics also ensure the good bacteria and enzymes necessary to regulate the digestive system stay intact.

Dogs that are especially nervous or prone to fear can benefit from melatonin supplementation. Melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone, promotes the release of chemicals in the brain that help your buddy feel safe, secure, and calm. In addition, it may act as a sleep aid in some breeds.

So much about your animal’s life is not in your control; thankfully, their nutrition can be. Feeding them high-quality foods and supplements will provide the building blocks of a long, healthy life.

By using a high quality Omega-3 Oil (Fish or Salmon) and an MSM supplement, your dog will receive the gift of a healthy coat, joints, and muscles. They also develop a healthy brain, heart and immune system; expect to be thanked with a face full of kisses!

When owning an animal, there will be several times throughout their life when you need to bring them to a veterinarian’s office. More times than not, it will be to receive pain medication for an injury or an age related disorder. When discussing medications with your vet, be sure to keep in mind some of the most effective analgesics available on the market.

Morphine is a popular narcotic due to its extremely potent properties and relatively few side effects. It is consistent in treating acute pain, even after an extensive injury. The effects of morphine on dogs is quite similar to that of humans; therefore, your pet does need to be monitored closely after administering the drug. For example, the same euphoric addiction that arises in humans, can also manifest in canines. Morphine has a couple of side effects including: sedation, vomiting, and constipation. Sedation is the most common by far, making it seem as if your buddy is in a prolonged period of somnolence. Hence, this drug is a very effective analgesic for the treatment of pain and it should be administered with notable caution.

Demerol is another treatment option for canine trauma; it is approximately one fifth as potent as morphine. As with the aforementioned, Demerol should not be used long-term since its efficacy diminishes within the first couple of uses. After repeated doses, the animal may become resistant to the drug’s capabilities. Demerol provides approximately an hour or two of pain relief in dogs, making it suitable for beginning analgesic treatment with less potent medications. Also, the drug works well with Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs which could help alleviate pain even more.

The group of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, known as NSAID’s, are usually the first resort due to their safety, availability and ability to be used for an extended period of time. Their viability allows them to be used for both acute pain and chronic pain. Popular NSAIDs that are safe to use under monitored conditions include Aspirin and Ibuprofen.

Another pain reliever in dogs is the use of canine physical therapy. Just like human physical therapy, this rehabilitation of the animal allows it to regain function in affected parts of the body, while reducing pain. Massages, for example, increase blood flow to the tended area, as well as providing relaxation to the muscles. Aquatic swimming therapy also allows the stretching of tendons and crucial ligaments for range of motion. This regiment is extremely effective in speeding up recovery post-surgery.

Finally, thermotherapy consists of using hot and cold packs to increase blood flow to a specified site; the heated packs decrease stiffness, allowing your pal to feel more comfortable and relaxed. The use of ice packs provides analgesia after a rigorous session by reducing the inflammation in the joints and muscles of the canine.

In summary, there are a variety of different medications and techniques which can be used to provide analgesia. For acute pain, narcotic medication will provide relatively safe and extremely potent analgesia to a canine, while chronic pain can be relived with more subtle medications in the NSAID’s group. Physical therapy in dogs greatly increases the recovery time post-accident while also decreasing the pain significantly, making these medications and techniques the most effective analgesics available.

How to Prevent Ticks and Fleas Naturally

If you have pets, you have to worry about ticks and fleas; when no preventative measures are taken, your companion can become seriously infested. Not only do ticks and fleas make your pets uncomfortable, they also make them sick and unhealthy. Ticks and fleas can spread diseases by transmitting a variety of other parasites to the host; including Lyme Disease, Tapeworm, and Dermatitis. Although there are chemical treatments for these common manifestations, it is safer for your pet to use non-chemical, natural remedies that a Holistic Veterinarian would recommend.

Many dog owners have heard of mange but are not quite sure what it is, how it is caused or how to prevent their dog from contracting it. Mange is not actually a disease that your dog can catch; it is caused by a variety of tiny mites. Demodectic mange is the most common type; it is caused by Demodex Canis Mites overpopulating and causing sensitivity on the host’s skin when their immune system is impaired for any reason. If you are not familiar with this term it because this occurrence is often referred to as Demodicosis or Red Mange.

All canines have tiny microscopic mites on their skin, however, you cannot see these mites with the human eye and they are considered normal residents on canine skin. Almost all puppies acquire these when they are young from their mothers, as suckling sparks the transfer of this dermal varmint. These insects rarely cause disease or problems, except when the canine immune system is impaired or under developed. There are selections of breeds that inherit a lower immune system and have a higher probability of acquiring mange from mites on their skin. Shar Peis and Old English Sheepdogs are prone to serious cases of Demodicosis.

Symptoms of Demodectic Mange

Often times, a localized manifestation is mistaken for ring worm. Initially, one will notice these abrasions as thinning fur around the corners of the mouth, along the eyelids, the edges of the lips and occasionally other parts of the body such as the legs, paws and trunk. The animal will continue to lose hair until there are patched of ragged, scaly, red skin in areas that average about 1 inch in diameter but there should only be a few of these. On puppies that are affected with localized demodicosis, the majority of cases will resolve with no major treatment besides time and quality food.

If your boy seems to have mange affecting a much larger area of skin, then it is considered “generalized.” This is not common and usually only happens when the animal has immune system issues, other health troubles or hereditary problems. In this case, secondary infections can get under the skin and cause itching and a distasteful smell.

In hereditary cases, Red Mange is often a resistant formation on the foot of the victim, under and around the paws. These cases are often compromised by bacterial infections and are called Bumblefoot or Pododermatitis.

Diagnosis and Treatment for Demodectic Mange

If you think your buddy is affected by such a condition, your first step should be to see a veterinarian. The vet can take skin scrapings to confirm the type of mites causing the dermatitis. The vet will determine if your puppy’s condition is considered localized or generalized. Most localized cases are not treated with anything unless they carry a secondary infection. The infection may be treated with medicated shampoos or antibiotics.

Generalized cases are treated for infections with antibiotics and the severe cases are treated with anti-parasitic treatment in the form of a dip that is applied for several weeks.

If the vet thinks your pooch is affected by pododermatitis, he will often do a biopsy to locate the demodex mites within the sore; the prognosis will follow, every owner will need to make sure they strictly follow the vet’s regiment for a full recovery.
The most common health problems in canines are skin disorders, which can be brought about by a myriad of issues. Some ailments, however, can be transferred to humans. If you see your dog scratching and biting at himself frequently, then he may have dermatitis. Dermatitis refers to an inflammatory itching of the skin; occurrences such as allergies, the environment, bacteria, viruses, or poor nutrition can cause such problems. Depending on how severe the affliction is, treatment may be quite simple or time consuming and strenuous. Digestive enzymes can be used to treat skin conditions like dermatitis.

Canine Acral Lick Dermatitis happens when continuous licking of an area occurs.; eventually, the area will become infected. Tension is at times, the culprit with ALD; the licking and chewing is actually a way for pooches to release tension. Animals get bored if they are restricted for long periods of time, some may believe they are actually being punished. In addition, adding other pets or people to the household can stress out your pup. Moreover, trauma from arthritis, skin cancer, and inflammation can also lead to sporadic gnawing on the fur.

Any breed can accrue dermatitis, but those more prone are; Border Collies, German Shepherd, Dalmatians, Dobermans, Great Danes, Labrador and Golden Retrievers, and the Irish Setter classes. Evolution Pets offers SkinPlex which are digestive enzymes for dogs, which are designed to help relieve and heal many skin infections, to include eczema and dermatitis.

What is Canine Pyoderma?

Canine Pyoderma is also known as Bacterial Folliculitis; the definition for pyoderma actually means, pus on the skin. It can refer to bacterial infections very common to dogs and cats. Usually, the canine spectrum requires antibiotic treatment, either topically or with oral medications. Most breeds will contract a pyoderma variation at some point, however, German Shepherd and Weimaraner appear to be the most susceptible.

Contact Dermatitis happens if an animal gets in contact with some type of irritant within the environment. Such things as carpet cleaner, flea collars and bleach can severely irritate the epidermis until it becomes itchy and reddened. Because of the normal protection of the dog’s hair, contact dermatitis is not as common as other conditions. When it does develop, it will usually be in areas where hair is thin; symptoms include itching, blisters, and redness. There are no particular breeds that are more prone to such a rash.

What is Canine Mange?

Then, there is, the all too well-known Sarcoptic Mange, caused by the Sarcoptes Mite. With this occurence, the animal’s skin becomes very irritated, usually affecting the legs, chest, abdomen, and ears.

Another irritation is Hot Spots, or Pyotraumatic Dermatitis, caused by bacteria. These manifest as red, moist, hairless areas within the coat. You will usually see this in the hot and humid time of the year, it is often instigated by allergies. Breeds prone to this are Boxers, Bulldogs, Dobermans, Collies, Dachshunds, Great Danes, Sheepdogs, Shar-Pei, Staffordshire Terriers, Beagles, Chihuahuas, and Shih-Tzus and Pugs.

Adding to the plethora of canine dermal afflictions, is the well-known problem is flea allergies. This is a very common allergy in dogs; most of the time, you will actually find few fleas causing such an instance. These skin allergies can be reduced with enzymes and the problem at hand is the allergic reaction to the fleas themselves. If this occurs, they will itch constantly, in turn, becoming hot spots. Symptoms to look for are severe itching, chewing and biting about the tail, legs and bottom, hot spots on their faces, and lesions that ooze. Fleas suck their host’s blood and have a lifespan of 6 to 12 months. The adult flea is usually found on a host, but can also survive in the environment such as your carpet or furniture. All dogs are prone to flea dermatitis, but some breeds tend to more prone, such as Bishon Frise.

Skin Fold Dermatitis (Intertrigo)

Skin fold dermatitis affects pugs because of the large amount of wrinkled skin, especially on their head. Due to the size of the pug’s head and all the excess skin that is there to cover it, the wrinkles occur. The skin rubbing together with the hair causes an irritation and contributes to such a condition. If your pug has issues with Intertrigo, the suggestion is that they not be bred. The hot humid weather makes this manifestation worse and your pet should be checked frequently for problems. Taking care of your companion is highly important if you want them to be healthy and happy, so remember, take care of your dog and they will care for you.

Diabetes can effect canines in the same fashion as it does humans. Importantly, it is not contagious and cannot be passed on to another human or animal. Diabetes is a condition when the body cannot make or use insulin; if a dog does not have enough insulin, blood glucose levels rise and cause several complications. An insulin overdose can cause low blood sugar, as well as convulsions.

Signs and Symptoms

An animal who has recently developed diabetes will show symptoms such as weight loss, frequent urination, and drinking lots of water. A dog may also become exercise intolerant and tire out quickly. A visit to the veterinarian for a urine and blood test to analyze glucose levels will confirm this condition. If treatment is not received in a timely manner, more severe symptoms will manifest like loss of appetite, vomiting, dehydration, lethargy weakness, coma and eventually death.

Tests and Diagnosis

Both blood and urine samples can be analyzed for glucose content; having dogs tested by both methods is important, as there are other diseases and conditions that can mimic diabetes. Depending on the level of glucose and severity, a pet may have to stay at the veterinarian for a few days to be stabilized. When the animal returns home, scheduled checkups will be in order.

Treatment

After the initial vet visit and stabilization, treatment will begin at home. As with humans, diabetic canines are treated with insulin injections. The vet will know what dosage to prescribe, this is usually based on weight. Insulin is generally given with food twice a day, though there can be exceptions. These shots are relatively easy to give once the owner is trained on how to do so.

Prognosis
Dogs with diabetes can live a full and happy life, provided they are taken care of properly. Lifestyle changes may be very small, such as a new diet and feeding schedule. Pets are still able to play, walk, run, and socialize with others. Since most dogs who get this disease are over weight, daily walks are probably more important than ever. Most dogs will be put on a special, high-carb diet; this helps the body properly interact with insulin, but without enough physical activity, it can lead to weight gain. Just because a pooch has diabetes, doesn’t mean he can’t be given a treat. The only restriction is the quantity; bits of skinless chicken, cooked chicken liver, chicken hearts, or other commercially made treats, are all approved by veterinarians.

Complications
Usual complications include an enlarged liver, wounds becoming infected easily, and possible neurological problems in the near future. If left untreated or not properly regulated, there may be several other complications; blindness with or without cataracts, problems with the liver and kidneys, coma, and even death.

Hypoglycemia is synonymous with low blood sugar; this happens with an insulin overdose, regardless of the root cause. Symptoms include weakness, head tilting, restlessness, shivering and severe convulsions. Recovery involves giving the pup sweet substances like honey or prescribed glucose tablets. Glucose levels need to be monitored throughout the day, as they can fluctuate during treatment of hyperglycemia. A visit to the vet should also be a part of such a regiment.

Living with Diabetes
Both dogs and owners can live a normal life after diagnosis. A few changes in diet and exercise might be necessary, but not inconvenient. In fact, despite the apparent health issue, many victims become healthier after a healthy regime is introduced. This is not the end of the world, but a great new beginning in life.

Does My Dog Have Fleas?

If you are the owner of a dog and you believe he has a flea infestation, it is important to treat him as quickly as possible to prevent infections, scabs, and serious infestations throughout your home. When this occurs, they are often subjected to bites, which may cause itchiness, making him uncomfortable throughout the day. Getting them under control is possible with at-home solutions along with remedies available at pet stores and veterinarian offices. Bites from fleas are known to trigger sensitivity in the animal’s skin or even allergies; the outbreak is triggered by the insect’s saliva when it comes in contact with the epidermis. Visibly identifying the eggs on your pup’s skin, scabs, and broken lesions are the tell-tale clues of complete bane.

How to Diagnose Flea Bites | Controlling and Treating Fleas on Your Dog

You can use a specific comb to help with brushing your pup’s hair to identify dirt, eggs, and fleas themselves. If you cannot identify the parasites yourself, there are various tests available for skin diseases, mites, and nesting bugs. When you are looking for pest control, you have a few options. There are collars and shampoos available at almost every grocery store. Some oral products may be preferred, most can work to rid the nuisances without having to administer topical solutions. As you rid your pet of this plague, it is essential to also treat your home, since humans can also be a symbiotic host.

Treating Infestations in Your Home | Can Humans Get Fleas?

Immediately after curing your companion, you can purchase an at-home treatment or “flea bombing” solution, which can help to completely rid and kill all of the stragglers within a few hours. It is important to protect all of your valuables and to evacuate the house, as there are chemicals that can be potentially harmful or fatal if inhaled or ingested by any species.

After exposure, you can rest easy as your pup’s skin will heal within a few days to a week, allowing him to live and run happily again. Ensuring year round protection is possible by using dedicated collars and preventive measures.
