Why do dogs scratch their paws?

The most common problem that causes dog itch is pollen grains. Most of the time dog owners are puzzled that even though there are no flies in vicinity, their dog goes on itching itself.

This happens during the months of August and September, when the trees start shedding a large number of pollen grains. Sometimes when we are cleaning our sofa and bed, while dusting a large number of pollen grains along with dust particles are released .These pollen grains enter the dogs nose thus causes irritation which results in itching. Your dog will suffer from fleas one time or the other. Most of the time flea bites results in dog itch. Nevertheless, do not be confused that only flea bites causes itching. Most dogs are allergic to flea saliva and flea droppings. They cause not only itching but also the appearance of tiny red bumps and also redness of the skin. The only solution to such irritating dog itchy skin is spraying your house with disinfectant. Also bathing your dog with Epsom salt or oatmeal bath may help. Vacuum clean your house may also help to remove dirt and subsequently removing flea menace which will help with dogs eczema.

Another important cause of eczema is Heart worm. This disease is usually transmitted through mosquitoes. Once a dog catches heartworms, it is quite expensive to treat it. Thus it is always advised to consult your vet and get your dog checked for heartworms. A lot of vaccines are available which prevent dog itchy skin and other health issues.

Another very commonly occurring disease in dogs is ear mites. These mites live on the inner lining of the ear and they pierce the skin and causes severe itching in dogs. If unchecked, they may lead to severe bacterial infections. Dogs which have long floppy ears are more likely to catch this disease.

But most commonly dogs are designed to itch themselves. As they roam around a lot of rubbish, they are more likely to catch fungal infection or germs. These germs are responsible for the itching. But there is nothing to panic when you see your dogs scratching. It is a common habit among canine especially if they are experiencing dog eczema. Only if the dogs itchy skin persists for a long time only then you should take notice or if your dog is feeling uncomfortable, then you know its time to take him to your local vet.
