Adopting a dog. The term rescued dog refers to a dog that has been rescued from a possible death, probably from euthanasia in an animal shelter, from an abusive home or may be simply a dog that is no longer wanted by its owner. When these dogs are adopted, they are usually placed in a new home with a new set of owners. The rescued dogs are usually adult dogs. Thus adopting these animals have their own set of benefits and disadvantages. Apart from that, adopting pets is a very noble act since this act will give him love and a new home!
While bringing home a pet in its early stages of life has certain benefits, there are numerous advantages associated with adopting adult dogs too. Unlike a puppy, an adult rescued dog may l not require extensive training neither will they need endless attention. Often, these animals are fairly socialized and trained. In addition to that, they do not need to be housebroken (hopefully!) Even if they have not been housebroken already, the adult dogs hold the physical capacity to be housebroken.
In addition to that, the adults are typically fast leaner’s. Rescued dogs that have been adopted tend to form a strong bond with their owners. Most of them have a past of abusive or negligent home environment. These dogs are not used to human affection or kindness. Once they begin to trust their new owners, they express their gratitude by forming strong bonds with these owners. Dogs are animals that have strong sensitivity for human attention. Once they sense affection from their owners they quickly comes out of its shell to form a great pet for its owners.
In addition to that, an adult rescued dog does not come with the nuisances that are common with the puppies. They do not require house training; they do not chew furniture and shoes. Additionally, the adult dogs tend to be calmer in temperament. The adult dogs usually come with the benefit of some house training. Another advantage associated with adopting a rescued dog is that their personality, temperament, habits and certain other general qualities are already known to the animal shelters and rescue organizations.
The rescue organizations (such as the SPCA, ASPCA, humain society) can help the new owners with these information and also provide some general information regarding training, behavioral problems, feeding, general care, etc. Thus, adopting and training them is a much easier job than training a new puppy. Furthermore, these organizations allow the new dog owners to get back them to them if they have a query whereas none of the pet stores offer this facility. Another advantage associated with adoption of rescued pet is that they will typically have all their shots and vacations which can be very expensive.
Typically the animal shelter or Animal Humane Society has already had a veterinarian check the pets health and vaccinate, worm, and perhaps even microchip your new little buddy. So remember that pet adopting not only saves the life of the dog that has been adopted but also help to free up the place in foster home thus making more space for more pound dogs.
