Cures for Dog Mites and Mange

Dog mites can cause a lot of unpleasant things. They are caused by Demodex mites and bring hair loss, as well as skin irritation. Also called dog mange, they usually invade the skin of young dogs and the demodectic type of mange is also caused by demodex mite. They are found in the hair follicles and are considered normal if a small amount is found on your dog’s skin. If actions are not taken for curing dog mites, they will reproduce in a short amount of time and thus cause0 the demodectic mange disease.

If curing dog mites is the ultimate goal, especially of the canine mange- type, don’t worry because if it’s minor, it will heal on its own. According to statistics, 90 percent of these mange type are localized thus treated locally also. This process is done by a dilution of amitraz; use 3 to 30 ml of this mineral or you can use goodwinol ointment; 1 percent of it. You should then apply one of these on the skin, so that dog mites will be gone. If you happen to notice the wounds getting worst, just wait it out. This is the normal process before they fully heal and improve. After 4 weeks of treatment, the amount of mites present should be less.

Check to see if improvements are visible; if not then maybe the disease should be viewed and treated in a generalized form. Dogs that develop a generalized type of demodicosis, the treatment should be more aggressive in order for curing of dog mites to be met. Dog mites should receive treatment, but studies conducted, have shown that about 30 to 50 percent of these cases heal and recover on their own. If treatment is done, the first step is getting a prescribed medicine called amitraz. Their drips should be applied every two weeks and make sure that before you start, medium to long hair length of dogs should be cut short. This way, the solution will effectively come in contact with the dog’s skin.

Remedies and Treatments for Dog Mange and Mites on Skin

What you do is, wash your dog’s skin with a shampoo that has an antibacterial ingredient; an example is benzoyl peroxide. Applying ointment to the eyes should also be considered for protection. When that is done, dry your dog’s hair using a towel. All of this should be done with protective gloves, for your protection also. Wait a while until the amitraz is also dry and it would be better if you administered something that would control secondary infections. Ask your pet’s vet for an antibiotic and surely, dog mites will be gone. Remember that this treatment needs 4 to 14 dips of amitraz within 2 weeks time. In order for you to see results, skin scraping- testing should be done and continue with the treatment until curing dog mites is achieved. 

The only way your dog is considered cured, is if there are no mites seen after a year from the last treatment. You should also take note that this treatment may cause side effects. Dogs tend to feel sedated and nauseated while others won’t feel anything. Always consult the veterinarian for the treatment and cure of dog mites.
